Amelia
This silly blog of mine is taking a serious stand today. Look at me complaining about a common illness and the effects it took on a single day (yesterday). While, some friends of ours have a wee little gal, Amelia , who's struggling with a serious disease called Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA). Please take a few moments to watch the video below. It's hard to watch the video and not envision your own children in Amelia's shoes.
For the last 10 weeks, Amelia's daddy has been training for the Hospital Hill Half-Marathon coming up on June 7th. So many charitable causes have organized races, runs, walks, etc… but because DBA is so rare, there is nothing out there like that for them. It’s up to the individual families to do their own fund raising events.
Please consider making a donation in Amelia's honor. A check can be made out to the Diamond Blackfan Anemia Foundation and mailed to the following address:
7769 Rosehill Road
Lenexa, KS 66216
The DBAF will mail you a receipt of your donation for tax purposes. Thanks in advance for any donation, big or small. It will make race day that much more inspirational for our friends - who can’t think of a better way to honor Amelia (just five days before her 4th birthday). Your dollars will aid a foundation committed to improving Amelia’s quality life and ultimately curing her of this disease!

Sick Day
Poof! Today's playdate (& Mama free time) went down the toilet. Literally. Kenzie was feeling sickly this morning. Although she was almost instantaneously better, I would have felt badly sending a dose of the flu to the hosting household.
So, we played with paints. And just as spontaneously - our collaborative artwork resulted in a new banner for my blog.
I cropped the much larger smooshy-painty mess down to this:

Camping: Clinton Lake
The photos speak for themselves - it was an excellent time! The trip was cut short from the original plan due to storming & tornado sirens on Friday. Despite the weather forecast for chilly weather - we decided to take Kenzie's advice and "Let's Go Camping!!" Turns out our instincts were right and the weather was absolutely beautiful.

Homemade Peanut Butter Cups
Our new most-favorite-kid-chef recipe:
INGREDIENTS
* 1 (11.5 ounce) package milk chocolate chips, divided
* 1 cup peanut butter
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
DIRECTIONS
1. Trim 12 paper muffin cup liners to half of their height.
2. Place 1/2 chocolate chips in a microwave safe container. Microwave for 2 minutes, stirring after each minute. Spoon melted chocolate into muffin cups, filling halfway. With a spoon, draw the chocolate up the sides of the cups until evenly coated. Cool in the refrigerator until firm.
3. In a small bowl, mix together peanut butter, confectioners' sugar and salt. divide into the chocolate cups. Melt the remaining chocolate, and spoon over peanut butter. Spread chocolate to edges of cups.

conversation with daddy
Kenzie and Daddy got breakfast McMuffins at McDonald's this morning. As they drove away, Kenzie noticed their Happy Meal advertisements in the window:
Kenzie: Hey, where's my toy?
Daddy: You didn't get a Happy Meal today, so there is no toy.
Kenzie: Well, why did you buy me the Sad meal then?

Go to work with Daddy Day

Her "best part" of the day was "writing at her desk." She got her very own name tag, professionally printed according to what she wants to be when she grows up.

A bug collector...
Of course.
